A deadly crash on Friday, June 12, claimed the lives of a San Antonio couple who left a bright spark on their community.
Carlos and Jennifer Mugica of Castle Hills have been identified as the couple killed in a car crash on I-10 near Flatonia on Friday, as reported by News4 SA. MySA has reached out to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office for more information on Friday’s fatal crash, but tributes have been pouring in for the couple.

“Carlos and Jenn were friends, proud residents of Castle Hills, enthusiastic supporters of Fiesta, and advocates of the Rey Feo Consejo Educational Foundation,” Castle Hills Mayor JR Trevino wrote on Facebook. “Their kindness, generosity, and commitment to our community left a lasting impact on all who knew them. We are grateful for their many contributions to Castle Hills and for the countless ways they enriched our lives simply by being part of it. They will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.”
What we know about Carlos, Jennifer Mugica
Carlos was born and raised in San Antonio and worked as a realtor with LPT Realty, in addition to serving on the Castle Hills Zoning Commission. Recently serving as transportation minister for the Rey Feo Scholarship, both he and Jennifer championed education and opening doors for all people, according to his Rey Feo bio page.

Jennifer served in various roles with San Antonio ISD and worked as an assistant principal at Longfellow Middle School at the time of her death. Tributes from the school and her past workplaces have flooded in following the news.
“It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our assistant principal, Ms. Jennifer Mugica,” Longfellow Middle School wrote on Facebook. “Ms. Mugica’s bright smile and caring spirit made Longfellow a place where everyone around her felt valued. She was kind, compassionate and loved our Longfellow community. She cared deeply for our students, families and staff. Her kindness, service and love for children will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Please keep Ms. Jen’s family, friends and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers.”
Jennifer previously worked as an assistant principal at Woodlawn Academy and SAISD Young Women’s Leadership Academy, both of which are mourning the news of her death.

“With broken hearts, we express our deepest condolences to the family of our greatly loved and respected former YWLA teacher and assistant principal, Mrs. Jennifer Salazar Mugica, and to her husband, Carlos Mugica’s family, too,” SAISD Young Women’s Leadership Academy wrote on Facebook. “Her laughing eyes and beautiful smile lit up so many days for so many students. We lean into hope, as Jennifer always did.”
“Mrs. Salazar was a dedicated educator and leader whose impact on Woodlawn Academy continues to be felt today,” the school wrote. “During her time at Woodlawn, she worked to support students and encourage staff to always place children at the center of their work. Her kindness, compassion and unwavering commitment to education touched countless lives.”

This is a profound loss that comes far too soon. Carlos and Jennifer were a young, vibrant, and generous couple whose impact on San Antonio and beyond will be felt for generations. Their commitment to serving others was unwavering, and they gave so much of themselves to the community they loved.
While many will remember Carlos and Jennifer for their dedication to public service and philanthropy, those closest to them knew that service was only one part of who they were. Carlos was, first and foremost, a devoted father, a loving grandfather to a new grand baby, and a cherished son. Together, Carlos and Jennifer built a life centered on family, compassion, and a sincere desire to make a difference in the lives of others.
On behalf of the Rey Feo Scholarship Foundation, we extend our heartfelt prayers and deepest sympathies to their family, friends, and all those grieving this tremendous loss.
