From Austin to Omaha, college fans around the country now know Blake Peterson.
“This is pretty neat,” the play-by-play announcer said. “This kid grew up a die-hard Texas fan.”
He didn’t reach base but Peterson did drive in his first career run with a hard-hit sinking line drive to first base. ESPN’s broadcast team pointed out that the redshirt sophomore had yet to drive in a run during his two seasons with the team.
“Blake Peterson was oh-so-close, but he does pick up his first career RBI,” the broadcast said.
The former Chaparral was a three-year letter-winner and helped Westlake qualify for the postseason after a 14-year drought. He had a .463 average with 30 RBIs as a senior.
He did not appear in any games for Texas his freshman year in 2024 and redshirted in 2025. As a sophomore, leading up to his appearance in Omaha, he batted just four times and had one run against Holy Cross in the Austin Regional.
