CLOVIS, New Mexico (KCBD) – A 19-year-old woman was treated for a gunshot wound early Monday after police say her 17-year-old boyfriend shot her during a domestic dispute.
Officers responded about 3:22 a.m. on Monday to Plains Regional Medical Center, where the woman was reported to have injuries consistent with a bullet grazing the left side of her head and striking her left thumb, police said.
Detectives determined the shooting happened during an argument that turned physical. The teen allegedly retrieved a handgun, threatened to kill the woman and fired one round, police said. The woman told investigators she was threatened if she reported the incident to law enforcement.
Police said the teen and his mother, Ruby Outlaw, were located and detained. A search warrant was executed at their home, but the firearm has not been recovered.
The teen was taken to the juvenile detention center in Lovington and charged with aggravated battery on a household member, intimidation of a witness and false imprisonment, police said.
Outlaw was booked into the Curry County Adult Detention Center and charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and tampering with evidence, police said.
