Texas softball continued its offseason reload by signing Austin-area native Isa Torres, the top player in the transfer portal based on On3’s rankings and one of the top players in the country.
A multi-time All-American at Florida State, Torres started 175 games in the infield for the Seminoles over the past three seasons while establishing herself as one of the premier defensive players in college softball. This past season proved her best at the plate, which helped Torres earn D1 Softball’s national player of the year award. Torres broke school records by batting .530 and scoring 78 runs this past season with a career high 21 doubles, seven triples, 16 home runs and 56 RBIs.
For her career, Torres hits .439 and has tallied 186 runs, 158 RBIs and 34 home runs. She has one remaining year of eligibility.
Torres played primarily shortstop for Florida State but has experience at second base. Texas welcomes back shortstop Vivi Martinez from its second straight national-championship run but lost second baseman Leighann Goode to graduation.
Torres becomes the third transfer to join Texas since the portal opened June 8. She joins former Texas Tech pitcher Samantha Lincoln and former Arizona State catcher Samantha Swan, who played softball with Torres at Georgetown High School.
