England and Croatia face off Wednesday in the second of nine FIFA World Cup games in Dallas.
For fans preparing to head to Dallas Stadium or a watch party, here’s what to know about the weather forecast.
Temperatures in North Texas are expected to reach a high of 94 degrees, with a heat index, or “feels-like” temperature, of up to 105 degrees, according to the National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office.
There is no chance of precipitation, according to the weather service. Humidity and some wind gusts are expected.
Should the heat index reach 105, the weather service will issue a heat advisory. These advisories are issued when heat is potentially dangerous but does not warrant a warning. The weather service recommends limiting outdoor activity once an advisory is in place.
Though Dallas Stadium’s (AT&T Stadium) retractable roof will be closed for the game, fans should still prepare for potentially dangerous heat.
Public transportation to the stadium drops passengers a half mile walk away from the stadium, and fans parking there will have to walk for an estimated 18 minutes. Fans heading to FIFA Fan Fest or local watch parties like the one at Klyde Warren Park will be outside for the duration of the game.
To stay safe in the heat, the CDC recommends drinking water and avoiding dehydrators such as caffeine and alcohol. The CDC also recommends wearing sunscreen and staying in the shade, and monitoring for signs of dehydration, which can include fatigue, thirst, rapid pulse and irritability. Most cases of dehydration can be treated by drinking water.
