EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Two schools from San Elizario Independent School District will be closed for the 2026-2027 school year due to declining enrollment, according to a spokesperson with the district on Tuesday, June 16.
Lorenzo G. Alarcon Elementary School and Lorenzo G. Loya Primary School will not operate for the next school year.
This comes after the school board voted to reorganize grade-level campus composition due to declining enrollment and personnel changes on June 10.
According to the spokesperson, Josefa L. Sambrano Elementary School will serve Pre-K 3, Pre-K 4, Kindergarten, 1st grade and 2nd grade students. Alfonso Borrego Sr. Elementary School will serve all 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grade students.
The spokesperson also noted that all personnel at the two closing schools will be moved. All staff from Loya PS will move to Sambrano ES, and all Alarcon ES staff will move to Borrego ES.
“All personnel have contracts and have accepted letters of assurance to continue their employment with San Elizario ISD for the 2026-2027 school year. The district is not offering an incentive for personnel to resign,” read part of the statement from the spokesperson.
