LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – With temperatures hitting 108 in Lubbock Wednesday, Open Door is open until 5 p.m. for those seeking refuge from the extreme heat.
Open Door is reminding the community about the serious dangers the summer heat poses for people experiencing homelessness.
The non-profit’s community center will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. for anyone seeking shelter. The community center is located at 1918 13th Street.
Irene is currently pregnant and without a place to stay.
“It is so important to have a place like Open Door to get out of the heat for my health,” she said. “I’m grateful to have this place today.”
Open Door is also asking the community to help meet urgent needs by donating bottled water, sunscreen and bug spray. Donations can be dropped off at the community center.
