LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The heat is here to stay for the next couple of days, with dangerously hot temperatures expected to dominate your weather forecast Wednesday which is why the First Alert Weather Team has designated today as a First Alert Weather Day.

Wednesday’s forecast
Temperatures will quickly climb into the triple digits by early afternoon, with highs ranging from 103°F to 110°F. The hottest temperatures are expected off the Caprock, where some areas could approach the higher end of that range.

A Heat Advisory is in effect area-wide from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. this evening. During this time, the combination of extreme heat and low humidity will create dangerous conditions for anyone spending time outdoors.

Precautions should be taken to avoid heat-related illnesses. Limit outdoor activities, especially during peak heating hours in the afternoon, and stay hydrated throughout the day. Dry conditions are expected with no precipitation in sight.

Thursday’s forecast
More of the same heat is expected for the southern portion of the viewing area tomorrow. These portions of our region may see temperatures similar to today, with another Heat Advisory possible depending on the exact timing of a cold front moving through the region.

Cooling is expected to arrive Friday following the cold front’s complete passage through the region, along with some storm chances. Heat will return this weekend ahead of potential storm activity early next week.
