Fans can enjoy discounted food and drinks, wrestling matches, fireworks, jersey giveaways and special Father’s Day activities at Whataburger Field.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Corpus Christi Hooks are kicking off a summer full of family-friendly entertainment, special promotions and themed events at Whataburger Field.
Hooks General Manager Brady Ballard joined 3NEWS First Edition to preview a busy weekend and upcoming summer attractions, including wrestling matches, fireworks, giveaways and Father’s Day activities.
The fun begins Thursday night with the return of the team’s popular “$3 Thursday Throwdown,” featuring discounted food and drinks throughout the game.
Fans will also be treated to live professional wrestling presented by the Gulf Coast Wrestling Alliance.
“This is the second year we’ve done this,” Ballard said. “We’ll have a ring beyond the outfield wall in the kids’ area. We’ll have a couple of matches before and during the Hooks game, and then a slew of matches after the game.”
Friday night brings another fan favorite with Bud Light Friday Fireworks following the game. Fans can also purchase a special Toy Story-themed shirt as an add-on to their ticket package.
“It’s an inexpensive way to add this on before perhaps you head to the theater,” Ballard said.
On Saturday, the Hooks will continue their Global Series jersey giveaway program. This month’s featured jersey honors Astros catcher Yainer Diaz and his Dominican Republic roots.
“We’ve been doing our Global Series this year,” Ballard said. “This one is Yainer Diaz, who’s from the Dominican Republic. It ties back to the World Baseball Classic, and it’s a pretty sharp look.”
The weekend concludes with Father’s Day celebrations on Sunday.
The Hooks will allow families to participate in pregame catch on the field and give fathers a special drink discount upon entry. After the game, dads will also have the opportunity to run the bases with their children.
“We don’t want to forget the dads,” Ballard said. “We’re going to have pregame catch on the field, and dads will also be allowed to run the bases with the kids postgame Sunday.”
Looking ahead, the Hooks are also preparing for their annual Red, White and Boom celebration on July 3.
Although the team will not be playing at home on July 3 or July 4 this year, Whataburger Field will still host a standalone Independence Day event featuring food vendors, live music and one of the largest fireworks displays in the region.
“It’s going to be vendors and food and live music,” Ballard said. “It’s just a fun chance to come down on the field, take in Whataburger Field for what it is, and then you’re sitting practically under the fireworks.”
