“It is a really sad day for the P. Terry’s family,” Terry said in an Instagram post, adding the business had been operating at the site for roughly a decade. “We think this building is iconic. We love our location. We’ve been able to serve the people in Central Texas at this location for so long, but we must go. And there’s not anything we can do about it.”
Noted for its iconic “flagship” architectural design, Terry confirmed the Capital Plaza P. Terry’s location will close on June 28.
“For years, this stand has served our community, and we’re incredibly thankful for every guest who stopped by for a burger, fries, a shake, or simply made us part of their routine,” the post’s caption read. “While we’re sad to say goodbye to this location, we’re grateful for the memories and look forward to continuing to serve you at our other locations across Texas.”
In the comments, Austinites and Texans alike mourned the impending loss, with one person writing, “How do we make it a PTerry’s toll booth,” and another adding, “I’d rather they stop construction on I-35 than lose P. Terry’s at this location.”
