SAN ELIZARIO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — A couple was arrested in San Elizario after authorities said they rescued a severely malnourished dog.
According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, Carlos Jasso, 30, and Myalena Morales, 25, were arrested Monday evening after Animal Welfare officers had discovered a dog living in unsanitary conditions and showing signs of extreme emaciation, like his ribs, spine and even facial bones visible, as he was in a small space with no food or water, with trash and dried feces and exposed to the heat.
The discovery was made on June 11 at the 12100 block of Socorro Road.
Authorities said Jasso and Morales were identified as the owners, who, during the investigation, allegedly failed to show proof that they had recently taken the dog to a veterinarian.

Deputies obtained warrants for the arrest of the two and on Monday, at around 6:59 p.m., both Jasso and Morales were arrested.
Jail records show Jasso and Morales were both booked into the El Paso County Downtown Jail and charged with cruelty to non-livestock animals.
Jasso’s bond was set at $5,000, while Morales’ was set at $3,000.
According to jail records, both were released from jail on Tuesday after posting a surety bond.
