The show follows fictionalized versions of McConaughey and Harrelson as they navigate family life, friendship and the challenges of living together on McConaughey’s Texas ranch. The project reunites the actors more than a decade after their partnership in the first season of HBO’s “True Detective.”
“Brothers,” an eight-episode comedy loosely inspired by the actors’ decades-long friendship, will debut Sept. 23 on Apple TV+.
For Austinites, the series has been hard to miss.
Throughout 2025, McConaughey and Harrelson turned Austin into their set, drawing social media attention from Auditorium Shores to Congress Avenue. Residents spotted the pair cruising through the city in pickup trucks and filming scenes in matching blue cowboy suits.
Production on “Brothers” wasn’t all smooth. After filming much of the season in Austin, production was temporarily halted in 2025 because of reported creative differences over the show’s ending. Veteran producer and writer Lee Eisenberg later stepped in to help finish the show.
McConaughey and Harrelson remained closely involved as executive producers.
Now, after months of filming and plenty of celeb sightings, Austin will get to see some familiar landscapes in the finished product when it premieres in September.
