As the long weekend rolls in, San Antonio could see another round of storm clouds and gloomy days. While it’ll keep the heat at bay, it does mean breaking out the grill for the Juneteenth holiday could be a bit trickier.
Storm odds first creep into the San Antonio forecast on Friday, June 19, as many people start the long holiday weekend. Clouds and rain chances could linger over the Alamo City through Saturday night, with odds hovering between 20% and 50%, possibly complicating some weekend plans.
“The forecast for tomorrow is rather tricky as much will depend on what occurs this evening and tonight,” the National Weather Service Austin-San Antonio office reported Thursday, noting earlier storm development could spell continued rain showers as locally heavy rainfall odds rise on Friday afternoon.
As the weekend continues, forecasters say rain chances are highest over the Texas Hill Country and down into the I-35 corridor. However, that weaker storm system should begin to move east. That means the skies should begin to open up by Sunday, allowing the sun to peek through and bringing back a more typical summer afternoon.
So, if you’re planning to take the party outside for the holiday weekend, Sunday is the safest bet, even if temperatures climb back into the mid-90s.
