TEXAS CITY, Texas – A shelter-in-place order has been issued for parts of Texas City after a reported fire at the Marathon oil refinery, according to the Texas City Police Department.
Police said the shelter-in-place area includes locations from 14th Street to 34th. Residents are urged to remain indoors until conditions improve and an all-clear is issued.
“A shelter in place was originally issued for Bay Street to SH-146 after a fire was reported at Marathon this morning. The fire, combined with a south wind, caused a smoky plume to drift across the city,” a city spokesperson said in an update to KPRC 2.
Emergency responders are on scene and are closely monitoring the situation, including air quality, police said. Officials said updates will be posted as soon as they become available.
KPRC 2 has reached out to Marathon for more information.
This is a developing story.
