Five days after its season ended with a shutout loss in the College World Series, the Texas baseball team has added another bat to its lineup.
On Sunday, former Kent State outfielder Sawyer Solitaria announced that he will transfer to Texas. Solitaria just hit .294 with a team-high 16 homers, 47 RBIs and 49 runs scored during his sophomore season, and the 6-foot-5, 225-pound Ohio native was 11-for-13 on his attempted steals. Solitaria also went 7-for-15 with four RBIs, six runs and one homer during four games against SEC representatives Tennessee and LSU.
Defensively, Solitaria was Kent State’s starting right fielder in all 57 of its games this season. He committed five errors while recording two assists.
Texas has holes to fill in its outfield since Aiden Robbins is a likely draft pick and Dariyan Pendergrass has exhausted his eligibility. But Anthony Pack Jr. just wrapped up a breakout campaign as a freshman, both Ashton Larson and Maddox Monsour got playing time in the outfielder this past season and the Longhorns will soon add incoming freshman Trent Maybin, who is the son of former major league outfielder Cameron Maybin, to their roster. A two-sport athlete who has dealt with a series of injuries over the past two springs, Jonah Williams could also factor into the mix.
