Emergency crews responded to water rescues across the San Antonio-area Saturday morning as flooded roads forced widespread closures.
Medina County Fire/EMS said crews responded to multiple water rescues overnight and urged residents to stay off area roadways. The agency reported several flooded crossings, including FM 471 due to flooding at San Geronimo Creek, according to an agency update just before 6 a.m. on June 20.
Photos shared by the department on social media showed a partially submerged vehicle in floodwaters and water covering a roadway near FM 471 North and County Road 381.
In Bexar County, the sheriff’s office also warned drivers about dangerous travel conditions Saturday morning and advised residents to avoid flooded roadways whenever possible.
At 7:40 a.m., the sheriff’s office reported closures affecting portions of Bulverde Road, Old Fredericksburg Road, Haby Lane, Scenic Loop, Specht Road and several other roadways throughout the county.
By 10 a.m., the Bexar Flood Operations Center’s online tracker showed 21 closed locations out of 196 monitored crossings, including Bulverde Road at Cibolo Creek, Cagnon Road at the Medina River, Doheny Road at Culebra Creek and Pinn Road.
Both agencies urged residents to remain cautious and allow water levels to recede before traveling. The Bexar Flood Operations Center also reminded motorists to “Turn Around, Don’t Drown” and noted that driving around barricades at low-water crossings is illegal.
