AUSTIN, Texas — Today is Election Day, and Austinites will see several items on the ballot. This includes 17 state constitutional amendments and Austin’s controversial Proposition Q that could raise property taxes. City officials say the proposed $0.05 property tax rate increase above the voter-approval rate would generate $110 million to fund city services such as public health, safety and homelessness initiatives.

Ahead of Election Day, voters have expressed mixed opinions on the proposition. Some Austinites say a tax increase is the best way to benefit city services. But others say the tax increase could tax regular people out of the community.
