LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – update 1:16 p.m. The thunderstorm complex mentioned below has continued its progress to the southeast. It’s hot with a good bit of humidity, providing fuel for these storms.

Severe warnings have been issued in SW Oklahoma and the SE Panhandle, because of the potential for 1.5″-diameter hail and 60mph gusts. Storm motion is to the southeast around 25mph.

A severe thunderstorm watch has been expanded to include Childress, Cottle and King counties until 3 p.m. A watch is issued for the potential for severe weather, warnings are issued when severe weather is happening.

Then, another round of storms may develop over the eastern Panhandle and push south, into part of our area, later this afternoon into tonight.

posted mid-morning Tuesday – Thunderstorm activity currently moving across the Oklahoma Panhandle and northern Texas Panhandle could trigger additional storm development across the Caprock this afternoon, though timing and intensity remain uncertain.

KCBDKCBD(KCBD)

An outflow boundary from those existing storms may push southward through the region this afternoon, potentially sparking new thunderstorms. However, model forecasts continue to shift, and the exact timing could change by several hours. We’ll have a better idea as later model runs come in.

KCBDKCBD(KCBD)Damaging winds and large hail expected

If storms develop as anticipated, the primary hazards will include large hail up to golf ball size, damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph, and heavy rainfall.

KCBDKCBD(KCBD)

Storms are expected to increase in coverage over the northeastern portion of the viewing area this evening before moving south/southeast off the Caprock. Most activity should end after midnight.

KCBDKCBD(KCBD)Hot and mostly sunny earlier in the day

Conditions will remain mostly sunny and hot through the afternoon before storms potentially develop. Above-normal temperatures will persist through the rest of the week and into the weekend.

KCBDKCBD(KCBD)

Low chances for thunderstorms are expected to return each afternoon and evening through the end of the week, with triple-digit high temperatures likely Tuesday as a strong upper-level ridge continues to dominate the region.
