LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Starting in 2027, middle school students in the Lubbock-Cooper school district will move up to the same high school as their classmates.
The board unanimously adopted plans to impose a new feeder system at its meeting tonight.
Earlier this month, the district said it wanted to change separate attendance zone maps to one unified map.
District leaders said the move will create stability for students as they transition from junior high to high school.
Some parents argued against the proposal, raising concerns about travel and how the plan was communicated.
Superintendent Aaron Waldrip said the district believes the new feeder system will support middle school and high school programs.
“We just feel like a feeder system is going to really help all of our students especially middle school and high school level with program sustainability,” Waldrip said. “It’s going to allow our high school programs to get started at the middle school level and ultimately build up a program starting at the sixth grade level that reaches all the way through 12th grade.”
