Thursday may be the coolest day D-FW sees for the near future. This weekend, temperatures could climb into the triple-digits, potentially resulting in the hottest weekend North Texas has seen so far this year.
Thursday’s high is forecast by the National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office to reach 96 degrees, with a low of 77 degrees. Saturday and Sunday, the weather service predicts highs could reach 100 degrees.
The heat index, or “feels like” temperature, will sit at 100 Thursday. This weekend, heat indexes could push the weather service to issue a heat advisory.
Heat advisories are issued when the air temperature is forecast to reach 103 degrees or the heat index climbs to 105 for two or more consecutive days. As Saturday, Sunday and Monday’s heat indexes are all currently forecast to be 105, it is likely an advisory will be in place.
Under a heat advisory, the weather service recommends postponing outdoor activities and taking precautions such as breaks from the sun and drinking a lot of water.
This advice is especially pertinent for World Cup fans, set to spend time outside as they travel to and from Dallas Stadium or attend watch parties. In Dallas, Japan will face Sweden at 6 p.m. Thursday ahead of Jordan vs. Argentina at 9 p.m. Saturday.
Sunny skies are anticipated by the weather service through the rest of the week, as are minimal precipitation chances. Humidity is likely.
