CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — An alleged associate of a Mexican drug cartel has been extradited to Corpus Christi to face federal drug trafficking charges.

Roberto Bazan-Salinas, 46, was captured by authorities in Guanajuato, Mexico, on March 5 following the issuance of a provisional arrest warrant requested by the United States. Bazan-Salinas was then extradited to the United States on June 18 and is set to appear before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mitchel Neurock Thursday morning at 10 a.m.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Bazan-Salinas is an alleged associate of the Cartel del Golfo. Prosecutors say that between 2021 and 2022, he conspired with others to possess with intent to distribute more than five kilograms of cocaine and more than 500 grams of a mixture containing meth.

A federal grand jury returned the indictment on March 27, 2024. Bazan-Salinas faces up to life in prison and a maximum $10 million fine if convicted.
