The city of Dallas says we’ll learn more about the $120 million expansion of Klyde Warren Park on Monday, June 29. Construction is expected to start later this year with completion by 2029.
The 1.7-acre addition will also have more shaded space for dogs.
The expansion will stretch the park from Saint Paul Street to Akard Street and include its first indoor event space, a 24,000-square-foot building topped with an 8,000-square-foot roof terrace.
West of Akard Street, plans call for a new outdoor event area, added greenspace, and room for a winter ice-skating rink.
“West of Akard, we go as far as we can go until we run out of headroom,” Jody Grant, chairman of the Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation, said.
The expansion has been in development since the early 2020s but was delayed when bids for the original $65 million project came in well over budget. Since then, a mix of public and private funding from federal, state, and local partners has brought the updated project cost to an estimated $121 million.
