Decisions will be made soon about whether to change Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA) rates in Port Aransas and other coastal communities.
TWIA’s Actuarial & Underwriting Committee will meet on Tuesday, June 30, to develop recommendations to the TWIA Board of Directors on rates.
People who want to make comments that can be reviewed by committee members before their meeting can do so by sending emails to PublicComment@TWIA.org. TWIA is encouraging citizens to send emails by Friday, June 26 “so the Committee can receive and review them before the June 30 meeting” according to TWIA’s website.
However, “TWIA staff will provide Committee with all written comments regardless of when they are received,” the website says.

“TWIA’s 2026 Rate Adequacy Analysis indicates that current rates are adequate by 9 percent for residential coverage and 4 percent for commercial coverage,” the website says.
TWIA’s Board of Directors is scheduled to meet on Aug. 4 to receive the Committee’s recommendation, hear public comment and vote to direct staff on a rate filing.
TWIA is required to submit a rate filing to the Texas Department of Insurance by Aug. 15. All TWIA filings are subject to review by the Texas insurance commissioner. The commissioner must approve a filing for a rate increase to go into effect.
