TxDOT is closing the lanes beginning Friday, June 26, and Saturday, June 27, from 11 p.m. to 9 a.m. to continue work on the I-35 Capital Express South project’s elevated managed lanes. To perform work safely, the northbound I-35 main lanes will close nightly between the Slaughter Lane and SH 71/Ben White Boulevard exits.

As a result, the northbound flyover to SH 71 will also be closed, according to TxDOT. These Friday and Saturday night closures are expected to last until mid or late July.

TxDOT said the South Austin I-35 main lanes will be closed from 11 p.m. to 9 a.m. the following weekends:

•    Friday, June 26 and Saturday, June 27
•    Friday, July 10 and Saturday, July 11
•    Friday, July 17 and Saturday, July 18
•    Friday, July 24 and Saturday, July 25 (if needed)

Drivers traveling on northbound I-35 can use the William Cannon Drive exit (228), past Stassney Lane, to merge onto northbound I-35. For drivers traveling eastbound or westbound SH 71/Ben White Boulevard, you can use the William Cannon Drive exit (228), to continue along the northbound I-35 frontage road and turn at Ben White Boulevard.

TxDOT advised drivers to remain alert, follow signs and expect delays. The I-35 Capital Express South project is part of the state’s ongoing MyMobility35 expansion, slated to improve and expand the highway in Austin. The project will add two high-occupancy-vehicle (HOV) managed lanes in each direction along I-35 between SH 71/Ben White Boulevard and SH 45 Southeast, as well as add a southbound I-35 bypass lane to bypass Stassney Lane and William Cannon Drives, according to the TxDOT website
