COLLEGE STATION – The Texas state 7-on-7 high school football tournament wrapped up pool play for Division I on Friday. Sixty-four programs from 5A-6A competed in 16 groups of four; each team played four games.
The top 32 teams after pool play advance to the championship bracket, a single-elimination tournament that begins on Saturday at 8:45 a.m. The championship game is scheduled to begin at noon.
As for the other 32 teams, they’ll play in a consolation tournament starting at 8 a.m.

Roughly a quarter of the teams that competed on Friday are from the Dallas area. Here’s how they did and who they’ll face tomorrow.
Allen

The largest school in Texas earned control of Pool B, finishing 3-0. It beat Cy Fair 33-26 in the game, followed by a 42-20 win over Laredo Nixon. Allen wrapped up the day with a 36-25 win over Westlake.
Allen will take on Palo Duro in the championship bracket Round of 32.

Arlington

Arlington handled business in group play, going 2-1 by beating Anderson 27-20, then knocking off Mercedes 40-12. It lost 30-14 in the final game of the day to Cy Ranch, which went undefeated in Pool O.
Arlington will take on The Woodlands on Saturday.
Arlington Lamar
Arlington Lamar had a rough go of things on Friday, going 0-3 and finishing last in its group. Lamar lost 20-14 to Dickinson and repeated a 20-14 defeat to Ellison. Its final game was a 30-18 loss to PSJA North.

Lamar will play Shoemaker in the first round of the consolation bracket.
Cedar Hill

Pool D was one of the most competitive groups of the day. All six games finished within a one-score deficit.
Cedar Hill finished 2-1, despite losing its first game to Cooper 21-20. Cedar Hill tacked on consecutive wins against High Tower, 27-19, and Lake Travis, 13-6.

Cedar Hill will play Cedar Ridge in the first round on Saturday.
Coppell
Coppell scored 25 points in all three games on Friday and finished 3-0 in Pool H. They beat Economedes 25-7, then Grand Oaks 26-19, capped off by a 26-14 win over Tyler Legacy.
Coppell will play in a fun Dallas-area matchup against DeSoto in the Round of 32 on Saturday.
DeSoto

DeSoto finished 2-1 in Pool P, defeating EP Eastwood 25-20, then Gregory-Portland 14-6. DeSoto’s final game of the day ended in a 27-6 loss to Harker Heights.

The reigning 6A Division II state champions will take on Coppell on Saturday in a Dallas-area showdown.
Frisco Panther Creek
Panther Creek went 2-1 in Pool G, beating Laredo United 27-15, then falling 40-31 in a shootout against The Woodlands. Its final game ended in a 31-21 win over Temple.
Panther Creek will play Cy Ranch in the first round of the Champions bracket.
Keller Central

Keller Central went 2-1 after falling 25-20 to Klein in the opening game. Central knocked off Round Rock in a narrow 13-12 battle, then handled SA Johnson 23-12.

Central will play Bastrop in the Round of 32.
Lake Highlands
Lake Highlands was riding high, beating Shoemaker 18-13, then EP Andres 26-12, but with a chance to go 3-0, it lost 26-24 to Huntsville, a school that was 0-2 entering the last game.
Still, Lake Highlands went 2-1 and face PSJA North.
Mansfield Timberview

Mansfield Timberview went just 1-2 in Pool J, losing 28-22 to Waller and 34-33 to WF Legacy, but it did notch a 38-21 win over West Brook.
Fortunately for Timberview, Waller went 3-0 while West Brook and WF Legacy also finished 1-2. Timberview finished second despite having a losing record based on point differential.
The Wolves will play Dripping Springs in the Championship bracket.
North Forney
North Forney struggled, going 0-3 on Friday. Its first loss was a 19-13 defeat to College Park, then a 19-14 loss to Tyler. The final game was a 25-0 blowout defeat against Palo Duro.
North Forney plays Westlake in the consolation bracket.
Plano

Like Mansfield Timberview, Plano finished 1-2 in a group where three out of four schools finished 1-2. Unfortunately, the Plano beat Beaumont United 27-25, then lost consecutive games to Willis, 26-13, and WF Memorial, 21-19.
Plano will play Eastlake in the consolation bracket.
