The ongoing effort to build a soccer facility in one Dallas suburb may finally break ground later this year.
The construction is set to begin in October 2026, will cover over 14,000 square feet and is estimated to cost $25 million. The filing states that the project should take about 12 months to complete and will be located at the intersection of Holford Road and the President George Bush Turnpike.
The City of Garland in September ended negotiations with Atlético Dallas—a newly formed United Soccer League (USL) team that will make its debut in 2027—over a planned $71 million soccer facility at the same location, as city leaders believed the project wouldn’t scale sufficiently to generate an acceptable return on investment.
According to Atlético Dallas, the construction plan included a club headquarters, a professional training facility and new public soccer fields. The surrounding development was expected to involve a private investment exceeding $100 million for a mixed-use project that would create jobs, boost tourism and generate new business opportunities.
“At the end of the day, we are Atlético Dallas,” said Sam Morton, co-founder of Atlético Dallas. “That means we play for everyone in Dallas County–Garland included. While our headquarters will now shift, our loyalty remains to every fan, family and young athlete in this region who believes in the future of soccer.”
In February, the city sought bidders to provide facility operations and management services for municipal multi-field soccer complexes at Holford Road that would anchor a 127-acre entertainment development in Garland. FC Dallas, of Major League Soccer, is one of the confirmed bidders, per the Dallas Business Journal.
It’s unclear whether this is just the first phase of a longer development for the Holford Road location or whether this will be the entire project. The surrounding area is set to embark on the new entertainment development, which includes a convention hotel, food and beverage options, and other retail spaces. The city could not immediately be reached for comment on Thursday.
With the 2026 FIFA World Cup in full swing across Texas, it’s clear that Garland is priming itself to capture the soccer wave after the tournament ends.
