ARLINGTON, Texas — He’s a music maestro feeding the World Cup excitement at Dallas Stadium. A native Texan who is the man behind the match day tunes.
“It’s all about timing. We’re just waiting on the moment,” said Jesus “DJ Chuy” Salazar.
Salazar has worked sporting events across the country before, including Carolina Panthers games, but nothing compares to being the DJ at Dallas Stadium on match day.
“It’s been a dream. I wake up every day, and it doesn’t really feel real,” Salazar said. “Like, is this a dream? Like, pinch me. I’m dreaming.”
He got into the business before the COVID-19 pandemic through a brother who was also a DJ. He then got connected with the Dallas Cowboys’ in-game DJ and turned it into a full-time gig post-COVID.
Along with the nine matches, DJ Chuy is also entertaining fans in Dallas at the FIFA Fan Fest.
“You know music is very universal,” said soccer fan Victor Medora. “Everybody can just vibe to the beat, even if you don’t speak the language. Sometimes it’s just about the beats or the vibes with the people you’re around.”
“It’s been awesome. The cultures that all come together,” Salazar said. “I think it’s beautiful, everyone just coming together and enjoying the sport.”
Salazar is savoring his chance to elevate the fan experience at the World Cup.
“To be at the biggest sport in the world, at the biggest tournament in the world, it’s a very indescribable feeling,” Salazar said. “I don’t think any word can describe exactly how I feel about being a part of this tournament.”
