Glen Powell is proud to be a University of Texas alum — really proud.

While speaking to Texas Monthly for its November 2025 cover story, the actor opened up about his Texas Longhorn pride. Though Powell only spent one year at the University of Texas before leaving to pursue his acting career, his school pride remains strong — and manifests in some unique ways.

Powell told the outlet that he renovated his new home in Austin to feature a Texas Longhorns-themed doorbell — and Longhorns-themed bathroom.

“It’s kind of domed, with orange and white tiles,” he said. “It’s sick.”

In addition to his alma mater-themed home decor, Powell said, he also DIY-ed a table out of his Twisters truck grille, which — you guessed it — is Longhorn-themed as well.

Powell considers his one year at UT as “the greatest year of my entire life,” he told the outlet. After his freshman year, he recalled thinking, “I’m going to leave this place I’ve always dreamed about going to, to be a struggling actor in a town where I know nobody.”

The actor recently decided to return to his studies, enrolling in the Radio-Television-Film program at UT and completing online classes. At first, he hoped to graduate in spring 2025, but now he’s aiming for spring 2027.

“The problem is I told somebody that I was taking classes,” he recently told Jimmy Kimmel on his show. “And now there’s this ticking clock.”

Powell isn’t the only big actor to emerge from UT: Matthew McConaughey graduated from the university in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science, also in Radio-Television-Film. Now, McConaughey holds an official honor from the university: minister of culture.

The two Texas actors regularly attend Longhorns games together to cheer on their home team, Powell said.

“I’m kind of like a different era to Matthew. I look up at him and what he’s accomplished,” he said of McConaughey. “I feel like I’m a very attainable test case for Austin. I don’t feel like I have anything exceptional about me except that I’ve worked hard.”
