A DUI investigation evolved into a drug arrest earlier this month when El Paso County sheriff’s deputies found narcotics — including more than 200 fentanyl pills — while examining two motorists who appeared to be impaired, officials stated in a news release.
The arrests took place on June 19 outside the Loaf N’ Jug at 6695 Galley Road, east of Powers Boulevard, in the Cimarron Hills area of unincorporated El Paso County.
Deputies responded to a call about a “suspicious vehicle” that had been parked at the convenience store for about an hour. The caller said the two occupants appeared to be impaired.
The arriving deputies identified the occupants as Angela Vigil, 62, and Rudy Fuentes, 38. Vigil was seated on the driver’s side of the running vehicle. Both occupants appeared to be unconscious, officials said.
Deputies woke the occupants and searched them, finding drug paraphernalia on Fuentes and an unspecified amount of fentanyl on Vigil.
A search of the vehicle turned up 212 fentanyl pills and $2,300 in cash, the release stated.
Fuentes faces charges of unlawfully possessing drugs and drug paraphernalia. He was released on a personal recognizance bond. Vigil, who is charged with drug possession with intent to distribute and driving under the influence, was released on a $10,000 bond.
