LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A 13-year-old driver and a 15-year-old passenger were taken into custody Sunday afternoon after a stolen vehicle pursuit ended in a crash on the South Loop 289 westbound access road.

A Lubbock Police officer spotted the stolen vehicle near 40th Street and Avenue X just after 2:10 p.m. The driver fled when the officer attempted a traffic stop, prompting a pursuit.

The driver lost control and crashed into a barrier at the intersection of 70th Street and the westbound access road for South Loop 289.

Juveniles taken into custody

The 13-year-old driver fled on foot after the crash but was quickly taken into custody. A 15-year-old passenger remained in the vehicle and was also taken into custody.

Both juveniles sustained moderate injuries and were transported to UMC for medical clearance before being booked into the Lubbock County Juvenile Justice Center.
