Early Saturday morning, traffic begins to back up as roads are closed throughout downtown Luling, Texas for the annual Watermelon Thump Parade.

Dozens of floats, trailers, vehicles and performers take to the streets for the short route lined with spectators.

Shortly after, the festivities truly begin as registration opens for the famous watermelon eating contest at the pavilion.

Spectators then pack the pavilion for a full afternoon of watermelon eating, seed spitting and the Champion Melon auction.
