Houston’s Pride parade, which was postponed earlier this month because of rainy and stormy weather, has been rescheduled for Aug. 15.
The annual event celebrating the city’s LGBTQ+ community and its allies, originally scheduled for June 6 in downtown Houston, was called off a couple hours beforehand by Pride Houston 365. The nonprofit wrote in a Sunday social media post that this year’s parade will now be held Aug. 15.
“Rain changed the date. It did not change our commitment to showing up for our community,” Pride Houston 365 wrote in its post. “… Our thanks to the Mayor’s Office of Special Events for opening up dates that ensured Pride could still take place this year.”

A start time and route for the parade were not included in the announcement. The event typically draws tens of thousands to downtown Houston.
The festival that usually precedes the parade was held June 6 as planned.
Pride Houston’s festival and parade are historically held in late June, but this year’s event was initially bumped up because of the FIFA World Cup. Houston is hosting its sixth World Cup match at noon Monday, when Brazil and Japan meet for a round-of-32 match. The city will host its final match of the international soccer tournament at noon Saturday, July 4.
