TEXAS — North Texas is becoming a tech job hot spot.

The Dallas-Fort Worth area is among country’s hottest metros for tech job postings, according to a CompTIA report.

For more than 10 years, Chris Oyeku has been in the Dallas-Fort Worth area working in the tech industry.

“Dallas is built for the bigger technology corporations, compared to Austin was mainly the start ups,” Oyeku said. 

After noticing there wasn’t a space for tech professionals to come together, he created MixerCloud networking events in 2022.

“I wanted to create a concept that brings people together… Mixer’s networking cloud means virtualization. So virtualizing your networking experience. So essentially mixer cloud was supposed to be a digital Platform, but it evolved,” Oyeku said.

He says as the DFW area grew into a tech job hot spot, so did the networking events.

“This event used to be every single month in Dallas so 400, 500 people from different venues at W hotel, the Virgin hotel,” Oyeku said. 

Now MixerCloud events are every other month, but the number of people attending is still the same.

North Texas has perfectly poised itself to be a tech hot spot, according to an analysis from IT company CompTIA.

May data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics showed DFW had nearly 11,000 tech-related job postings last month, ranking third behind Washington, D.C. and New York City as No. 1 in the industry.

“DFW has always been, a concentration for some of the industries that have become tech giants first. So financial technology, cybersecurity, telecom, healthcare, insurance. Right. A number of these industries are located or even headquartered in North Texas,” says Dr. Timothy Bray, director of the Institute for Urban Policy Research at University of Texas at Dallas.

Bray says Austin used to be the Texas tech hot spot.

“Large scale, data centers, large scale data infrastructure that is coming, to North Texas. You know, Austin dreams it up, but the industries in North Texas are the ones that are putting it into production and putting it into play,” Bray said. 

With the constant growth of tech professionals, Oykeu is now growing MixerCloud into an app to reach more people.
