Some good news for taxpayers in Harris County: The Texas Supreme Court has temporarily blocked a $1 million program that gives left-wing NGOs money to cover attorney fees for illegal aliens.
The program was pushed through Commissioners Court last year in a 4-1 vote. By November, it was already facing a legal challenge from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. The program will now be put on pause until that lawsuit plays out.
Harris County Precinct 3 Commissioner Tom Ramsey, the lone “no” vote on the issue, said of the program: “That’s not what county government is set up to do. On this particular issue, there are all sorts of legal issues, and I said that when they brought this up last year.”
Unfortunately, Ramsey predicted that the county will continue to fight for this program in court, which likely means more wasted taxpayer money. “Not only are we spending over a million dollars doing something we shouldn’t, we’re going to spend a large sum of money defending that,” he said. “This makes no sense.”
Ramsey also called this out as the exact type of program being pushed by radical-left socialists and communists across the United States right now.
