EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — El Paso singer-songwriter Julián Kalel will return to his hometown stage on the Fourth of July as part of the city’s America 250 Celebration, a weeklong series of events commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States.
Kalel, 19, is scheduled to perform at the El Paso Convention Center Plaza during the July 4 finale, joining a lineup of local performers as part of the free community celebration.
The eight-day event, running from June 27 through July 4, includes concerts, family activities and cultural events across El Paso and Fort Bliss, culminating with live music and a projection light show downtown.
The performance marks another milestone for the El Paso native, whose music has been closely tied to his personal experiences with mental health.
“I’ve been really just a lucky guy to say the least,” Kalel said in an interview with KTSM.
Kalel released his debut single, “Surrender,” on Aug 23, 2024, then later auditioned for American Idol with the song but chose to step away from the competition to prioritize his mental health.
He returned with “Lone Guitar,” released Sept 1, 2025.
The track became the centerpiece of his second American Idol audition on Feb 2 of this year, earning him a golden ticket to Hollywood Week and launching his run on the nationally televised competition.
Now, Kalel is bringing his journey on the iconic television show back home.
His appearance at the America 250 Celebration gives local audiences a chance to see one of El Paso’s emerging artists perform in front of a hometown crowd during one of the city’s largest Independence Day events.
