Grocery giant H-E-B has big plans for San Antonio’s Eastside. While the company is just getting the ball rolling on its $700 million supply chain expansion, a new filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) reveals its next big step.
The company filed the report on Friday, June 26, outlining its upcoming work at 2045 South Foster Road, near the City of China Grove. Online records indicate that construction crews will begin building a 675,000-square-foot refrigerated facility this fall.
Residents near the Lakeside neighborhood may notice significant changes to the land over the next two years. The team will focus on constructing “Building 23,” which will span roughly 675,000 square feet. According to the TDLR filing, it will include a two-story office and administrative space, remote shipping and receiving offices, and adjacent maintenance spaces. Project leaders are spending roughly $125 million to accomplish these renovations.
Online records indicate that work at the site will conclude in March 2028. This follows the brand’s unveiling of its pricey growth plan, also taking place at the Foster Road campus. There, H-E-B has operated on 870 acres since roughly 2018. Other initiatives scheduled for the space include the addition of a new transportation center and a bakery.
“These efforts will complement existing operations and support the company’s growing supply chain operations across the region and state,” a company news release states. “The project will be the company’s largest investment in its manufacturing and supply-chain division.”
Locals will benefit in a couple of major ways. H-E-B says the new facilities will create 720 jobs by 2028 and more than 1,200 full-time positions over the next decade.
“We look forward to advancing our plans to grow our supply chain operations, a project that reaffirms our commitment to be an economic engine for our great state,” Carson Landsgard, H-E-B Chief Supply Chain Officer, wrote in a statement.
