LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Texas Tech football has seen a resurgence in recent years, and Paramount+ is giving the nation an opportunity to see the team up close and personal.
Robert Giovannetti with Texas Tech athletics says this project has been in the works for quite some time.
“They came to Kirby Hocutt last fall, their CEO, and he had came out to a game and he said ‘I love what’s happening in west Texas and Texas Tech, I think this would be an interesting look behind the curtain of your program,” Giovannetti said.
The upcoming series will give viewers a unique look at how things operate inside Texas Tech football, along with interviews from head coach Joey McGuire, tons of student athletes and even other media personalities from across the country.
Since production began in January, Giovannetti says the filming process has been first class.
“They’re a professional group,” Giovannetti said. “They’re so thorough, they know what they’re doing and we have conversations with them almost daily. We expected the process to be really good and it’s been wildly more successful than that.”
Giovannetti says he knows the series will feature Brendan Sorsby, but it shouldn’t take away from what Texas Tech is doing currently.
“That’s not the entire story of our offseason, that’s not the entire story of this program,” Giovannetti said. “It’s always the next man up kind of mentality. I just think there is so many great things happening here that you don’t want that to get lost in a story that really did take a hold of the nation. We’re not shying away from that, we understand it happened, but we’re also moving forward.”
Part of moving forward includes getting quarterback Will Hammond back, who will take over the position when he recovers from injury.
“We’re a viable part of the college football, college athletics landscape,” Giovannetti said. “You’ve seen it across the board in our success in a lot of sports, not just football, and so we want to tell that story.”
This series looks to bring the red raiders to your screen in a new way, while showcasing ‘the brand’ in unprecedented fashion.
