April was a particularly cruel month for San Antonio’s fried fish lovers, as The Lighthouse Seafood announced it would close after 10 years on Fredericksburg Road. However, that closure was short-lived, and the restaurant soon found a new home.
As of this month, The Lighthouse Seafood has officially reopened at a new location, and it’s not very far from its shuttered Fredericksburg Road location. In fact, the eatery is still on Fred, but now it’s closer to Balcones Heights. MySA previously visited the original location to report on The Lighthouse Seafood’s affordable menu, so what better time to check back in than a week after its reopening?

If you’re heading to The Lighthouse these days, it’s a good idea to look it up on GPS beforehand, because the restaurant doesn’t appear to have signage visible from the road. The front door has a logo indicating which suite the restaurant took over at the Springwood shopping center. The Lighthouse’s new dining room is smaller and accented by a single shade of blue, lacking the intricate murals of its previous home, but the marbled aqua tables and the jazz soundtrack remain the same.
The menu also seems more or less untouched, aside from a few small price changes. For example, during my last trip to The Lighthouse in April 2025, the fried fish sandwich was $8.99, a dollar less than it is now. To be fair, you’d be hard-pressed to find any restaurant that hasn’t had to increase prices over the last few years. In the end, I went with the shrimp and fish daily special, which comes with a fried fish fillet, six fried shrimp, coleslaw, hush puppies and fries for $11.99.

After paying, customers are given a number, and their order is called out when it’s ready. When it’s your turn, you pick up your food from a window behind the order counter, a flow that seemed to cause some slight confusion. It didn’t slow me down from grabbing my food once it was plated on a red cafeteria tray. After grabbing ketchup for my fries, I headed back to my self-selected table to eat.
I hardly touched the coleslaw, more a reflection of my personal preferences than anything, but I threw the fried shrimp back like nobody’s business. Everything fried was cooked to golden perfection, and the tartar sauce gave each bite a little zing. It was a perfectly fine meal and reasonably generous for the price. Though the space may be different, The Lighthouse Seafood’s kitchen chops have absolutely carried over to the new location.
