President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that Republicans will hold the first GOP midterm convention in Dallas on September 9 and 10 at American Airlines Center, CBS News Texas reported, putting North Texas at the center of the party’s push before November’s congressional elections.
Trump Sets Dallas Dates
Trump made the announcement in a Truth Social post and called the planned Dallas gathering a “truly Historic Event.”
“Dallas will take center stage on September 9th and 10th as we celebrate our Nation, our achievements, and our bright future,” Trump wrote.
Trump said the convention will celebrate the “GREAT AMERICAN COMEBACK” and highlight the America First agenda. He pointed to tax pledges involving tips, overtime and Social Security, along with border security, public safety, affordability, job growth and energy production as themes for the event.
The president also said the event will feature workers, innovators, entrepreneurs, manufacturers, first responders and job creators.
“We will also have lots of Great Entertainment — It will be a RALLY like none other!” Trump wrote.
RNC Calls Convention A ‘Trumpapalooza’
RNC Chairman Joe Gruters said in an official statement that the convention will highlight Trump’s record and help unite Republicans before the midterm elections.
“This historic Midterm Convention will highlight President Trump’s many accomplishments and unwavering commitment to restoring America,” said RNC Chairman Joe Gruters. “This convention will be a Trumpapalooza, where we will showcase the America First agenda, which has delivered the largest tax cut in history and made communities safer. President Trump will unite Republicans around our shared vision, build momentum, and deliver an incredible convention for our Party.”
Paxton Previewed The Dallas Convention
The announcement follows earlier reporting by The Dallas Express that Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said the GOP planned to hold a midterm convention in Dallas in September.
Paxton, the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate, made the comments during a June tele-town hall. He also said Republicans expected Trump to attend and speak.
Trump’s announcement confirmed the Dallas location and gave the convention its September 9 and 10 dates.
Texas Takes The National Stage
The Dallas convention will bring national Republican attention to Texas as the party works to protect its congressional majorities in November.
Texas will also feature a closely watched U.S. Senate race between Paxton and Democratic nominee James Talarico.
CBS News Texas reported that the convention will be held at American Airlines Center. Trump did not name the venue in his Truth Social post.
