Two of the top 2027 prospects in their respective state — as well as a standout in-state lineman — have committed to Steve Sarkisian and Texas football.
The Longhorns on June 12 reeled in four-star edge rusher Jabarrius Garror. Listed out of Mobile, Ala., Garror attended Vigor High School in the northern suburb of Prichard. He is 6-2, 215 pounds, ranked the No. 4 prospect in his state and ranked the No. 12 edge prospect nationally in his class. Alabama, Georgia , Miami and Michigan were among his suitors.
“Not the tallest or longest pass rusher, but has plus length in the wingspan and is thick through the torso,” 247Sports Andrew Ivins wrote in a scouting report. “Got snaps both on and off the ball as a junior and should bring that same versatility to college as he’s serviceable in drop coverage and could eventually offer interior looks if he keeps growing.”
Garror was the winner of Alabama’s Class 5A lineman of the year for the second season in a row. He racked up a gaudy 32.5 tackles for loss and 21 sacks, per 247Sports. Twice he’s been named a MaxPreps All-American.
A day earlier Kasi Currie, out of Sierra Canyon School in California, committed to UT. He is the No. 7 rising senior in his state and a four-star recruit, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. Listed at 6-foot-4 and 315 pounds, he was a contributor on both sides of the ball and could project as an offensive lineman.
“Initially was viewed as a penetrating defensive tackle, but put strong spells of play on tape at right tackle as a junior and could very well make a living protecting quarterbacks instead of attacking them,” Ivins wrote in Currie’s scouting report.
He held offers from Georgia, Texas A&M and Ohio State, among others.
Most recently, Houston-area star Jason Johnson committed to the Longhorns. The Humble Atascocita defensive lineman is a top-60 prospect in Texas in his class and a top-60 defensive lineman prospect nationally for 2027. Texas beat out A&M, Houston, LSU and a host of others for his services Monday.
Johnson projects to play on the inside, listed at 6-foot-4 and 280 pounds.
As of Tuesday evening, Texas had the No. 5 2027 class in the nation, per 247. The 21 commits consist of two five stars, nine four stars and 10 three starts. More top prospects are expected to make their decisions in the coming weeks.
