As the dog days of summer set in, you might be looking for ways to beat the heat and seek some relief from the Texas sun. If your ideal way involves reading by the pool, at Barton springs or in the comfort of some good ole air conditioning, you’re probably cruising through your summer reading list — and hopefully playing bingo with KUT’s summer reading challenge.

But if you’re in a reading rut or just looking to mix up your current TBR stack, KUT is here to help with our summer book swap on Saturday, July 18, at St. Elmo Brewing Co.’s Springdale location.

Here’s how it will work. Bring a book that you’ve read and loved, but that you are ready to pass along. We’ll gather and talk about the books we brought to swap. Consider this your chance to wax poetic about your choice. Tell us why you loved it and what you think it brings to readers. Then everyone will draw a number and the swapping begins in the same way that it does at a white elephant gift exchange.

There will be plenty of time to talk about the best books we’ve read so far this year, what we loved, hated and our most anticipated reads for the remainder of 2026.

Everyone will go home with a new book that will hopefully help you continue on your summer reading journey. Please RSVP on the event page to give us an idea of how many people to expect.

When: 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 18
Where: St. Elmo Springdale — 8110 Springdale Road, Austin
What to bring: A book you loved and are ready to part with
