The Houston Rockets signed veteran shooter Bogdan Bogdanovic to a one-year minimum contract.Houston also agreed to a two-year deal with guard Marcus Smart, reuniting him with coach Ime Udoka.Bogdanovic is expected to improve the team’s three-point shooting, while Smart brings award-winning defense.Bleacher Report graded the Bogdanovic signing a “B” and the Smart signing an “A”.
The Houston Rockets wasted no time Tuesday evening, agreeing to sign veteran sharpshooter Bogdan Bogdanovic to a one-year minimum contract in the early hours of free agency. Then, the Rockets inked Marcus Smart to a two-year deal Wednesday, reuniting him with Ime Udoka, his former head coach with the Celtics.
Although Bogdanovic made just 23 appearances last year, the career 38.1% 3-point shooter should aid Houston from beyond the arc next season after the Rockets finished 25th in 3-pointers made per game during the 2025-26 season. Following the move, Bleacher Report gave the Rockets front office a “B” grade.
As for Smart, Bleacher Report graded that move an “A” due to Smart’s cost-effective contract, his hustle and his strong perimeter defense. While Smart has yet to capture an NBA title, the longtime Boston Celtics guard has plenty of accolades on the defensive end, winning a Defensive Player of the Year Award and three NBA Hustle Awards.
Even though these moves may not necessarily move the needle in a tightly contested Western Conference, both are budget options to address areas of need.
