HOUSTON — There are certain sporting events that feel bigger than the game itself.
The FIFA World Cup is one of them.

Recently, while thousands of soccer fans descended on Houston for FIFA Fan Festival events, I found myself at The Ranch Presents: Pitch Live in Houston’s East Downtown district. What I expected was a place to watch soccer. What I found was something much closer to a celebration.
Located just steps away from Houston’s official FIFA Fan Festival, Pitch Live was created as a World Cup gathering place where fans from around the world can come together to watch matches, enjoy food and music and share in the atmosphere of what is widely considered the world’s biggest sporting event. The venue transformed the former Warehouse Live location into a Texas-inspired entertainment complex built specifically for the duration of the World Cup.

What stood out to me was not just the giant screens or the crowds. It was the energy.
Everywhere you looked, people were wearing national team jerseys, waving flags and talking soccer. Some were lifelong supporters. Others were simply there to experience the atmosphere. It did not matter where they came from. For a few hours, everyone was united by the same thing: the beautiful game.
As someone who has attended sporting events all over Texas, I was impressed by how Pitch Live captured the feeling of a major international tournament while still keeping a uniquely Houston identity. The venue combines viewing, dining, nightlife and entertainment into one experience that feels like a festival of its own.
The World Cup has always been about more than what happens on the field. It is about culture, community and shared experiences. FIFA Fan Festivals around the world have become gathering places where supporters can celebrate together regardless of whether or not they have a ticket to the match itself.
Standing among fans from different countries and backgrounds, it was easy to understand why the tournament captures the attention of billions of people every four years.
For Soldiers looking to experience a piece of the World Cup without leaving Texas, Pitch Live offers something special. Whether you’re a lifelong soccer supporter or someone simply looking for a unique weekend adventure, it is a place where the excitement of the tournament comes alive.
For one afternoon in Houston, it felt like the world had come together in one city. That is what great travel experiences are all about.
Pitch Live is located at 813 South Emanuel St. and is open 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Monday-Tuesday, 2 p.m.-2 a.m. Wednesday-Thursday, noon-2 a.m. Friday, 3 p.m.-2 a.m. Saturday and noon-5 p.m. Sunday. Pitch Live will run until the end of the World Cup July 19.
