The Harris County Sheriff’s Office says a man was shot by a deputy in Humble after a home disturbance and brief standoff.

Sheriff Ed Gonzales says it happened in the 15600 block of Morning Dove Drive on Wednesday afternoon, as deputies responded to a call from a mother who said she had been assaulted by her 47-year-old son. The mother exited the home when deputies arrived with visible lacerations.

The suspect, however, barricaded himself inside the home and refused deputies commands to exit. After some time, deputies noticed smoke coming from inside the home and, fearing the house was on fire, prepared to enter.

As they prepared to enter the home, the suspect emerged from the garage holding two knives. He was shot once in the upper torso and taken to the hospital in unknown condition.

No deputies were injured in the incident. An investigation is ongoing.
