Residents can expect a larger and brighter Fourth of July with this year’s Light Up Arlington event Sunday, as the city celebrates 150 years and the United States celebrates 250 years.
The free event is being funded by the Arlington Tomorrow Foundation and will feature a larger 18- to 20-minute fireworks display and coordinated drone show commemorating historic milestones starting at 9:30 p.m., according to an Arlington news release.
This year’s celebration will be relocated to the Arlington Entertainment District to accommodate the scale and technical requirements of the extended production, according to the release.
The fireworks and drones will be launched from Choctaw Stadium’s east side and visitors will have the best view of the show from the grassy area surrounding Mark Holtz Lake near the stadium and the National Medal of Honor Museum, according to the release.
The new location should provide a larger footprint needed for the drone and fireworks operation and will increase launch space, enhance safety buffers and provide wider viewing areas.
Event goers will be able to enjoy a variety of patriotic events alongside the firework and drone show, with the National Medal of Honor Museum staying open late to welcome guests after the Texas Rangers game. Visitors can enjoy outdoor games on the museum lawns and patriotic café menus.
Additionally, the U.S. Army’s First Cavalry Band will perform a 75-minute concert celebrating the spirit of America at 7:30 p.m.
Free parking for the event will be available in Texas Rangers Lots F, G, M and N, and lots will open to public parking at 7 p.m.
Attendees are encouraged to take blankets or lawn chairs to the event, but should refrain from taking glass bottles.
