“I’m honored by the trust Governor Abbott has placed in me,” Huffines said in a statement. “My commitment is simple: run government lean, protect every tax dollar, and keep Texas the best place to live, raise a family, and run a business.”
Huffines defeated Hancock, who became acting comptroller one year ago, in the March Republican primary. He’ll now face former state Sen. Sarah Eckhardt in the November general election for a four-year term.
In his acting role, Hancock has overseen the rollout of Texas’ education savings account program, which he identified as an early priority at his 2025 swearing-in. The state comptroller is also responsible for collecting taxes and fees, fiscal reporting and monitoring, and other financial initiatives.
