Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is calling for Texans to file complaints with his office if they believe they were scammed by the ticket resale company StubHub over FIFA World Cup tickets.
Paxton said Friday that his office is investigating after fans, including in World Cup host cities like Dallas and Houston, reported that StubHub canceled their tickets days or hours before kickoff. He pointed to an issue called “ghost ticketing,” in which sellers list tickets they do not actually possess, collect payment and then cancel the tickets.
StubHub has reportedly blamed the cancellations on “transfer problems” tied to FIFA’s ticketing platform. The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Texans who purchased World Cup tickets through StubHub and either did not receive them — or received inferior tickets — can file a complaint with the Office of the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division.
“In many cases, attending a World Cup match is a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” Paxton said in a statement. “If StubHub is ghost ticketing Texans out of that experience, my office will use every tool available to hold them accountable and help fans who have been wronged.”
