LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Today marks the first day in more than a week without a meaningful chance for afternoon or evening storms. Instead, sunshine and a warming atmosphere will push temperatures into the mid to upper 90s across the region.
High pressure is expanding overhead, creating a much more stable atmosphere through the weekend.
This means, most places will stay dry, but we can’t rule out a stray storm or two Saturday evening. However, the vast majority of holiday celebrations should stay rain-free.

The heat turns up a notch on Independence Day.
The day starts off with a mix of sun and clouds as highs flirt with triple digits. That’s not quite hot enough for widespread Heat Advisories, but it’s definitely uncomfortable if you’re outside for fireworks and cookouts.
Remember to drink water, take breaks in the shade, and remember that pavement temperature will be much hotter than the air temperature.
Firework forecasts are looking mostly favorable, although skies won’t necessarily be crystal clear. Clouds are expected to increase Saturday evening as a few storms may develop northwest of Lubbock.
