A Houston Uber driver is accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl after investigators say he met her while delivering groceries to her home, according to Harris County court records.
What began as a missing child investigation led detectives to identify Jermaine Trevor McDaniel, who now faces two felony charges, according to court records. The 33-year-old was charged June 8 with sexual assault of a child and promotion of child pornography.
The investigation began after the girl was reported missing in November 2025. Investigators said she left home with McDaniel after he delivered groceries to her residence as an Uber driver.
According to court records, the girl’s mother located McDaniel’s Instagram account after her daughter disappeared and provided the information to investigators, who later identified him through law enforcement databases.
Court documents allege the two communicated through Instagram before and after the encounters. Investigators later obtained Uber records, search warrants and social media records as part of the investigation.
Court records state the girl was reported missing a second time later that month after investigators believed she had again left with McDaniel. Even after she returned home, investigators allege McDaniel continued sending her Instagram messages for several weeks without receiving a response.
Investigators also allege videos depicting the sexual assaults were recovered during the investigation and that McDaniel possessed child sexual abuse material. Prosecutors allege the assaults occurred on multiple occasions.
McDaniel remains in the Harris County Jail on bonds totaling $200,000. His next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 10, according to court records.
In a statement to KHOU, an Uber spokesperson said the company permanently removed McDaniel from the platform and is cooperating with investigators.
“We are deeply disturbed by this driver’s reported behavior. We have banned him from the app and stand ready to support law enforcement with their investigation,” the spokesperson said.
