There’s nothing like a barbecue cookout to celebrate America’s birthday. But in Texas, how can you resist the urge to try one of the countless smokehouses celebrated for their smoked meats across the state? Instead of spending hours in the backyard, spend hours waiting in line for meats and sides worth every penny. However, be sure to check your local barbecue favorite before planning your holiday celebration.
Snow’s BBQ, Texas Monthly’s former No. 1 barbecue joint in the Lone Star State, is famous for three reasons: the food, the fact it’s only open on Saturdays, and its 91-year-old pitmaster “Tootsie” Tomanetz. Since it’s only open on Saturdays and usually sells out by 1 p.m., folks often line up as early as Friday afternoon to secure their spots. Well, this upcoming Saturday, July 4, fans will be out of luck, as Snow’s BBQ announced it will be closed on the Fourth of July.

“Listen up folks!!!!” Snow’s BBQ wrote back on June 1, alerting patrons that it would be closed on the Fourth of July. A second Facebook post on June 25 reminded guests about the upcoming closure, so you’ve had plenty of time to avoid the disappointment.
Snow’s BBQ also reminded Texans that its barbecue is available from GoldBelly, which will ship brisket, ribs, turkey and pork steaks, in addition to merch and sauces, nationwide from the beloved brand. However, if you’re reading this on the Fourth of July, you missed your chance at enjoying Snow’s from the comfort of your home.

Schulze’s Pit Room closes for Fourth of July weekend
Schulze’s Pit Room in Seguin shared that it will be closed on Saturday, July 4, and Sunday, July 5, in celebration of the holiday. The smokehouse will reopen for regular business on Tuesday, July 7, according to a Facebook post.

Kreuz Market closes parking lot on Fourth of July?
Kreuz Market has been serving barbecue in Lockhart since 1900, making it one of the oldest smokehouses in Texas. While the longtime barbecue favorite will be open on Saturday, the business shared that its parking lot will be closed for fireworks viewing.
“Due to issues in previous years, including littering, property damage and other behavior detrimental to our property, there will be NO ACCESS to the Kreuz parking lot for fireworks viewing,” Kreuz Market wrote. “Barricades, tow-away signs and tow truck operators will be on site. Any unauthorized vehicles will be towed at the owner’s expense.”

Kreuz will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, per its website.
